Doh Eain Youth Research: A Deeper Understanding
What We Can Do to Help Today’s Youth Thrive
Myanmar's youth population is growing rapidly and the country is urbanizing at a rapid pace. In order to better understand the needs and wants of young people in Myanmar and how we can better serve them in the future, a youth research study will be conducted by Doh Eain in April and May of 2022.
The questionnaire of the research aims to collect data from 1000 youth respondents between the age of 15 and 34. The data collection will be conducted mainly online but there will also be in-person collections of responses from youths who do not have access to the internet or who are unlikely to reach by online touchpoints. The questionnaire is conducted in both Burmese and English languages.
Thurein Aung, the Senior Public and Educational Outreach Manager at Doh Eain, said the research would provide invaluable insights into youth perceptions, needs, and priorities following the twin crises in Myanmar. He continued that the findings from the research will help in designing and delivering youth programs that are more effective and impactful.
The survey questionnaire for the non-partisan and apolitical research is composed of nine sections, each probing different areas such as socioeconomic backgrounds, education, livelihood, trust and safety, youth and community, well-being and priorities of the youth respondents. There is also a general information section that enquires about access to the internet and reliable news, and a section with questions that reflect Doh Eain's core values on communities and cities. The entire survey should take no more than 20 minutes to complete.
Respondents to the survey can also opt-in for one-to-one interviews. After data collection, interviews will be conducted with some of the respondents who opted for personal interviews as part of the qualitative component of the research. A short report will be produced after the research summarizing key findings and recommendations for the youth in Yangon.
For those respondents who completed the survey, there is also a giveaway program where three randomly selected respondents will be given a JBL Bluetooth speaker each as gifts.
